Jerry & I were married Aug. 27, 1977 at Christ Lutheran Church in Minot, N.D. I had been teaching first grade in Bowbells when we met. After the wedding, we moved to Windom, MN, where Jerry had been working as an electrician for Schweitzer's. Our first apartment was a little dive above a dry cleaning shop. When my parents came to visit for the first time, Dad went to the hardware store and purchased a rope to throw out the window in case of fire! I taught Title 1 Math that year. The following year, Jerry was transferred with Schweitzer's to Wahpeton. I taught first grade in neighboring town Wyndmere. While in Wahpeton, Jerry's dad offered him a job in the family dairy equipment business (Nolan's Surge) in Minot. We wanted to be close to family, since we were expecting our first child.
